Vocational Training

Training at the Sea Academy for future nautical officers, technicians and ship mechanics on board the multipurpose heavy-lift project carriers covers the needs of Beluga’s fleet for maritime personnel. However, the activities of the company go far beyond that since training is provided in different occupations.

For example, Beluga Shipping trains shipping agents and office clerks. Of the more than 325 employees at the Bremen headquarters, around one tenth are trainees. According to the training manual, the trainees are to be quickly integrated into processes relevant for value added. They perform challenging tasks all the way to carrying out complete projects.

Part of the training procedure is that every trainee goes through all departments in the company that are related to his or her field. Finally the trainees work in those specialised departments, among the 30 altogether, in which aptitude and motivation come into play so as to enable a smooth transition to the respective occupation in practice. According to an analysis of the University of Bremen, the trainees at Beluga Shipping GmbH achieve “an above-average level of professional capability, assuring them of very good opportunities on the labour market”.
