Providing people with assistance
Practised social responsibility means taking notice of people in need and distress and offering them assistance – in our region and worldwide. Assistance is particularly successful when it is based on the principle of sustainability and the maxim of helping people to help themselves.
For this reason we want to help people who are helpless.
Beluga School for Life
The Beluga School for Life in Thailand is a direct aid project of Beluga Shipping GmbH. The institution was set up in 2006, less than two years after the destructive tsunami at the end of 2004. Up to 240 orphans and surviving dependants can live and learn together here. The Bremen project and heavy-lift cargo shipping company furnishes the start-up capital and covers the operating costs for ten years.
“Bremer Fonds e.V.” (Bremen Fund) was created by Niels Stolberg, CEO of Beluga Shipping GmbH, endowed with start-up capital and tailored to specific projects. The patron is Bremen’s mayor, Jens Böhrnsen. Children and young people from socially weak city districts are supported by the Bremen Fund.
The Jona Children’s Hospice, for which Niels Stolberg, CEO of Beluga Shipping GmbH, is an ambassador, supports families in which a child suffers from a life-shortening disease. The institution gives strength, creates freedom of movement and supports in particular the parents and siblings in everyday life.
Martinsclub Bremen e.V.
For more than three decades Martinsclub Bremen e.V. has been a firmly established organisation that has focused its attention on helping people with disabilities achieve more quality of life and offering them a wide variety of educational and recreational opportunities. The relief project “ProCura Kids”, initiated by the German Red Cross, is aimed at improving the situation of children and young people who are under the care of a guardian. As a sponsor, Beluga Shipping GmbH supports the “ProCura Kids“ in Bremen and Bremerhaven.
The compatibility of family and career frequently poses problems for parents. As a family-friendly company, it is important to Beluga Shipping GmbH that, on request, parents be given the option of returning to the workplace at an early date. A child day care centre has been integrated into the new shipping company building at Bremen’s Teerhof.
Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS)
According to the Federal Maritime Responsibilities Act of 1965, the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service is the sea rescue service for the German North and Baltic Sea coast.
