Siemens Power Generators from Germany to the United Arab Emirates
Gas turbines belong to biggest machines at all. In December 2006 the MV “Beluga Recommendation” transported two of them, each weighing 340 tons, from Bremen, Germany, to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
In the port of loading the cranes of the in 2005 manufactured multipurpose heavy-lift project carrier lifted the valuable cargo from a alongside fixed barge on board. “Loading procedures with two objects on the water surface are always a big challenge who demand the entire know-how and the experience of the crew on board and the engineering ashore as well”, explains Ingo Fischer, responsible project director in the Chartering Department of Beluga.
After the three weeks voyage through North Sea, Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea, the Street of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf the crew awaits a surprise in the destination port: The worst cloudburst for 30 years in this country. But the weather does not delay the discharge on a 14-axle heavy load trailer a single second. Therefore – as every heavy-lift carrier of the Beluga fleet – the MV “Beluga Recommendation” does not need any support by port cranes on site. After 12.000 kilometres the two Siemens gas turbines have reached their destination. Ingo Fischer adds: “Not only in this case we offer our clients tailor-made transport solutions. Thanks to a well-rehearsed team and sophisticated technology we are able to carry out challenging projects but to quickly react to changes as well.”
