Kunsthalle Bremen

Kunsthalle Bremen, the art gallery of international standing, offers an extensive collection of paintings and sculptures on three floors. The copper engraving section is considered to be one of the most significant of its kind. Kunsthalle Bremen regularly attains great repute based on its changing special exhibitions.

Beluga Shipping GmbH as well as the Gallery and Artist House Spiekeroog are supporters and cooperation partners of Kunsthalle Bremen. For its project conveying social, cultural, environmental policy and global aspects to primary school pupils on the basis of selected works of art and stimulating them to draw conclusions regarding ecological, economic and social developments, Kunsthalle Bremen is the only German museum allowed to bear the UNESCO logo and the title of “Official project of the UN World Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2008/2009”.

Above all, Kunsthalle Bremen is an impressive exhibition venue for old masters, French and German Impressionism, classic modern age and media art. The special exhibitions are a great attraction: for instance, 170,000 visitors saw the exhibition “The Blue Rider”, more than 220,000 art enthusiasts were enthralled by “Paula in Paris: Paula Modersohn-Becker and Art in Paris around 1900”, “Monet and Camille: Portraits of Women in Impressionism” lured 230,000 connoisseurs to the exhibition rooms. However, “Van Gogh: Fields” turned out to be the most popular cultural event in Bremen and attracted 322,000 visitors to the art gallery.

The last special exhibition was dedicated to the artistic and technical works of French painter, art collector and boat designer Gustave Caillebotte. The sailing yacht “Roastbeef”, designed by Caillebotte and built at his shipyard, has been on view in the Oval at Kunsthalle Bremen – made possible and presented by Beluga Shipping GmbH. On the occasion of the cooperation with the Gallery and Artist House Spiekeroog, furthermore, members of the Art Society of Kunsthalle Bremen led by curator Dr. Dorothee Hansen regularly take trips to the green North Sea island.

The Kunsthalle Bremen is closed until winter 2010/2011 to realize an annex and modernisation of the building.
