Klimahaus® Bremerhaven 8° Ost

Klimahaus® Bremerhaven 8° East is the only knowledge and adventure world of its kind. Visitors can feel and grasp the climate as an overall phenomenon, climate change is presented in a comprehensible manner. Federal Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel is the sponsor of the Climate House, which was opened on 25 June 2009.

The Klimahaus® will impressively document Germany’s pioneering role in international climate protection and create a unique scientific attraction for visitors in the region. The didactic goal is to establish the idea of climate protection in the minds and hearts of people in an entirely new way since not only countries and companies, but also each individual can curb climate change through adapted behaviour. 600,000 guests a year are expected.

Beluga Shipping GmbH, which is making an extraordinary commitment to research in order to generate innovative and sustainable processes – such as in the case of the carrier MV “Beluga SkySails” co-driven by wind power – is one of the two main sponsors of the Climate House in Bremerhaven. Beluga Shipping will be primarily represented in the exhibition sections Water and Air with its own displays and explanations on the maritime sector in times of impending climate change.

The diversity of the climate and the consequences of the changes are shown on an exhibition area of 11,500 square metres by means of multimedia installations, more than 100 exhibits, some of them interactive, and on the basis of an exciting climate journey around the world along the eighth eastern meridian: Bremerhaven – Switzerland – Sardinia – Niger – Cameroon – Antarctic – Samoa – Alaska – Hallig Langeness/North Sea – Bremerhaven.
