Opening up a wide variety of educational opportunities
Only those who have access to education can follow their path in life successfully and on their own responsibility. Education is the basis for self-determined action serving the development of the individual personality and the common good.
We want to provide young people with access to the labour market through our training programmes and open up a wide variety of educational opportunities to disadvantaged persons.
Beluga Sea Academy
Up to 160 male and female cadets a year can receive a traineeship for a practical semester on board the modern fleet of multipurpose heavy-lift project carriers operated by the project and heavy-lift cargo shipping company in Bremen. According to the German Shipowners’ Association, Beluga Shipping is thus Germany’s largest training shipping company.
Maritimer Campus Elsfleth
As a public-private partnership between the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg/Ostfriesland/Wilhelmshaven (Department of Maritime Studies), the town of Elsfleth, the federal state of Lower Saxony and Beluga Shipping GmbH, the Maritime Campus in Elsfleth represents a unique competence centre.
Training at the Sea Academy for future nautical officers, technicians and ship mechanics on board the multipurpose heavy-lift project carriers covers the needs of Beluga’s fleet for maritime personnel. However, the activities of the company go far beyond that since training is provided in different occupations.
Insights into everyday working life and “trying out” different jobs are absolutely necessary for young people to decide on what type of employment they will strive for or what training to choose. During their university studies such insights are important so they can apply theory practically and fortify their knowledge.
Beluga Shipping GmbH offers a wide variety of possible topics that can be used as the subject for a research paper. The project and heavy-lift cargo shipping company furnishes the proper environment for a good final grade.
Project and heavy-lift cargo shipping is a highly specialised business that poses great challenges for everyone involved. To create opportunities for recruiting qualified employees, Beluga Shipping GmbH finances endowment professor’s chairs, cooperates with universities and has drafted a new course of study.
STARTSTART is the name of the pupil scholarship programme for talented and committed children of immigrant families that was created by the non-profit-making Hertie Foundation in Hessen in 2002. The START programme has also been running successfully in Bremen since January 2005 – thanks to the assistance of Beluga Shipping GmbH, among others.
