Galerie- und Künstlerhaus Spiekeroog
The green North Sea island of Spiekeroog, one of the most popular holiday spots for Germans, has been one attraction richer since June 2007. The Gallery and Artist House Spiekeroog offers guests and islanders alike the opportunity of creative development under professional supervision in a stylish ambience.
The child relief project “Beluga School for Life” was initiated after the tsunami disaster struck Thailand at Christmas 2004. The unique charity music project “HOME” came into being to generate financial support for setting up and operating the charitable facility.
Whether opera or philharmonic concert, musical or chamber music, charity concert or developing young musical talent – through its diverse commitment to the arts the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra is a pillar of support for musical life in the region.
Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen
The German Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Bremen is one of the leading chamber orchestras worldwide and caused a sensation most recently by virtue of its interpretation of works by Ludwig van Beethoven on the “Around the World Tour 2007“. Estonian star conductor Paavo Järvi has been the art director of the established ensemble since 2004.
The Bremen Music Festival is an annual summer concert event with outstanding international artists. The 19th Music Festival will make the Hanseatic city resound from 30 August to 21 September 2008. Around 1,000 artists at 40 individual programme events will offer top-class musical enjoyment.
The Bayreuth Festival, also known as the Richard Wagner Festival, is a unique international music and theatre event at which the ten main works of Richard Wagner are alternately performed for around five weeks every year. The venue of the performances is the Bayreuth Festival Theatre built by Wagner.
Schnürschuh Theater Bremen
Schnürschuh Theaterhaus has been playing committed, emancipated youth theatre for more than 30 years now. The establishment pursues the goal of being a “theatre in motion” and offering culture that, for its part, also moves. The room with 100 seats is visited by around 16,000 spectators every year.
Theater Bremen is a municipal theatre of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. The ensemble performs changing plays, musicals, dance theatre, operas and operettas at various venues: Theater am Goetheplatz, Neues Schauspielhaus, Brauhauskeller and Moks (children and youth theatre).
Kunsthalle Bremen, the art gallery of international standing, offers an extensive collection of paintings and sculptures on three floors. The copper engraving section is considered to be one of the most significant of its kind. Kunsthalle Bremen regularly attains great repute based on its changing special exhibitions.
Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag
The German Protestant Kirchentag will be held in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen for the first time in its 60-year history. The Bremen Protestant Church will be the host from 20 to 24 May 2009, together with the three neighbouring churches: the Lutheran State Church of Hannover, the Lutheran Church in Oldenburg and the Protestant Reformed Church. 100,000 permanent participants and a large number of day visitors are expected at the religious festival in Bremen.
